Ruto Promotes ‘Usawa Ni Sawa’ Message During KSh18 Billion Trans Nzoia Road Tour

President William Ruto waves to supporters during a public rally in Trans Nzoia County.
President William Ruto waves to supporters during his North Rift development tour, where road, electricity, market and education projects in Trans Nzoia were highlighted.

President William Ruto has urged Kenyans to embrace the “Usawa Ni Sawa” message, linking it to his administration’s stated commitment to giving every region an equal opportunity to prosper.

The message featured during the President’s development tour of the North Rift, which included road projects, electricity connectivity initiatives, market infrastructure and education facilities in Trans Nzoia County.

“We call on every Kenyan to embrace our rallying call, Usawa Ni Sawa, as we work together to transform our nation and ensure every region has an equal opportunity to prosper,” Ruto said.

The government presented the projects highlighted during the tour as part of a wider development agenda covering transport, electricity access, housing, trade and education.

In Cherangany Constituency, Ruto launched construction of the 27.5-kilometre Mwaita–Bwage–Makutano–Kapsara–Minex–Aruba–Kesogon road, valued at KSh1.7 billion.

In Kiminini, he launched the first phase of the Kiminini–Mitoto–Ndalu–Brigadier road, with KSh500 million allocated to the initial phase and a further KSh1 billion pledged for completion.

The government also cited a KSh7 billion investment in the expansion of the Maili Tisa–Kitale Road.

Across Trans Nzoia, the stated road investment programme stands at KSh18 billion and targets 270 kilometres of roads.

The announced figures cover projects at different stages, including launches and future funding commitments.

Electricity connectivity was another focus of the tour.

In Cherangany, the government flagged off a KSh171 million project targeting 2,147 homes. A separate KSh922 million project is expected to connect 8,792 homes across Trans Nzoia County.

The projects are intended to expand access to electricity, although the supplied information does not establish how many of the targeted households have already been connected.

The government also highlighted a KSh17 billion investment covering affordable housing, modern markets and student hostels.

Of this amount, KSh1.5 billion has been allocated to 15 modern markets.

During the tour, Ruto inspected Kiminini Modern Market, a KSh181 million project reported to be 50 per cent complete and scheduled for completion in December 2026.

The market is expected to accommodate 500 traders once completed.

In the education sector, the President commissioned a 27-classroom tuition block at Kiminini Comprehensive School.

The government also cited progress under a national digital learning programme, reporting that 10,382 schools had been equipped and more than 64,000 teachers trained.

These figures relate to different stages of implementation and should not be interpreted as proof that every announced project or investment has been completed.

The “Usawa Ni Sawa” message centres on equitable opportunity, while the projects highlighted during the tour are intended to support development across Trans Nzoia.

For residents, the practical impact will depend on the completion and use of the announced infrastructure.

Key measures include the condition of completed roads, the number of households actually connected to electricity, whether markets become operational and whether school facilities improve teaching and learning.

The progress of these projects will help determine how the investments translate into services and opportunities for communities across the county.
